What's Happening
Thanks for all who came out to eat Friday after gang play! We had a great turnout with the men's and ladies' golf associations for our town appreciation lunch. The Town of Jamestown provided burgers and hot dogs. The food was great and the fellowship was even better. Thanks again to our Town Manager Matt Johnson and for the acknowledgement. We greatly appreciate it. Also thanks to Parks and Recreation Department Head Scott Coakley for organizing the cookout and putting everything together.
See everyone at the course soon.

To all JGA Members:
The November Turkey Tournament has been postponed due to The Town of Jamestown having to start work to fix a leak in the dam on hole number 4. The project will take 2 to 3 weeks and the front nine will be closed during this project. We will hopefully find a date to reschedule in the near future. Stay tuned for further details.
JGA WINS THE BIG 4 CHALLENGE!
We played Bryan Park, Greensboro National and Pine Knolls at each course including Jamestown Park. Each association brought 24 players and the best 20 scores counted. I list the players who played for us at one or more courses: Glenn Alspaugh, Dave Anderson, Vince Avera, Larry Blackwood, David Boger, Tom Brereton, Melvin Brower, Ronnie Dennis, Don Douglass, George Erath, Tom Faytol, Mark Felts, Gary Fulp, Jay Gardner, Charlie Gibson, Joe Gray, Stafford Gray, Todd Gurley, Ronnie Hancock, Jim Hanson, Larry Henderson, Will Hendren, Commie Johnson, George Kennon, Barry Knight, Frank Landing, Joel Lawson, Mike Mann, Phil Marsom, John Maynard, Julius Maynor, David Millis, Chris McKay, Glenn Meredith, Scotty Odell, Dan Pfabe, Shawn Prairie, Ron Schott, Dave Reynolds, Dave Schwanke, Ron Shelton, Joe Simmons, Norm Smith, Tom Tervo, Michael Thompson, Jim Welch.

We won 3 of the 4 matches to win the Big 4 Challenge Trophy. Many of our guys had outstanding outings.
John Maynard and I thank all of you for participating. We also thank Joe Simmons for helping us in many ways with these outings. We met a lot of very nice players at the other courses and had a lot of fun socializing with them. We appreciate the hospitality from each host course. Jamestown Park definitely played tough. GR-National gave it a run today as the greens dried out and picked up speed. We appreciate the hard work the other courses and association leaders put into each outing.
Thanks,
Frank Landing

JGA
Today we hosted Bryan Park, Greensboro National and Pine Knolls Associations in the Big 4 Challenge.
The course played tough. We use the player's handicap index from the tees played. This means you are playing against your points that represent the best you should do from those tees. During our weekday play we have a 5 round average score we are trying to beat. That average is less than our challenge against our index.
The results today are: JGA wins! Congrats to all the players.
JGA -86, Bryan Park -137, Pine Knolls -140, Greensboro National -141.
Top players for us: Commie Johnson 32 and made 36. +4
Ole Man Joe Gray 20 and made 21. +1
David Anderson 30 and made 29. -1
Frank Landing 36 and made 35. -1
Todd Gurley 26 and made 23. -3
The last challenge is at Greensboro National on Wednesday 10-4-2023.
Thanks,
Frank Landing

JGA
First and foremost the PKMGA hopes our guests had a great time and that you enjoyed the course.
Congratulations to Greensboro National for winning this the second of four matches in the Big Four. Jamestown is trying to solidify their match date with Tuesday, September 26 under consideration and Greensboro National is slated for Wednesday, October 4th. So schedule your doctor's appointments according.
The race for the yearly champion has tightened up with Greensboro National leading with 6 points, Jamestown and Bryan Park with 5 points and Pine Knolls with 4 points.
Congratulations to our individual winners with Pat Holiday winning with 6 points, Richard Anderson in second with 4 points, then 3 folks tying for third with 3 points (Lee Kiger, Charles Waugh, and Martin Sosnicki) then we had 6 folks tying for sixth with 2 points (Lee Holliday, Thomas Fatyol, Mike Dolan, Charles Hill, Trey Register and Thomas Hussey.
I have attached the Leaderboard as generated by Golf Genius but also I have made a file of our team competition that shows how Greensboro National won and Pine Knolls finished in second. If we had been playing all 24 scores Greensboro National and Pine Knolls would have tied at -67.
Did a little analysis and we had 24 players meet or exceed their quota. Oddly enough we only had one eagle - guess who! Greg Crite and Arlis Pike lead the pack with birdies. Greg with 7 and Arlis with 6. There were a total of 117 birdies and 279 "goose eggs". Hole #14 oddly enough played the toughest today at 1.0 over par. Holes #15 and #12 came in second at 0.9 over par.
Our Closest to the Pin winners getting a Cart Certificate were GW Gibson #3, Larry Blackwood #9, Christopher McKay #11 and Steve Michael #18.
You can get a complete look at the results in greater detail at www.pkbig4.golfgenius.com.
Note: After the error was identified at the course with a card entry I examined all cards against
the computer and everything is correct. The computer found probably over 15 errors on the cards either addition or oddly enough many cards had the points entered incorrectly with a par registered as 1 point or a bogey as 0 points. This occurred most often on #10 and #17.
See you at Jamestown!!!
Gentlemen, please see below a message from your JGA President, Frank Landing
The Town of Jamestown has added a double sided sign to the Jamestown Park entrance. "Home of the JGA with our logo". We greatly appreciate their kindness and support of our association. The Jamestown Park Ladies Association also has a sign. Get by and see the sign. The golf course now has reversed the 9's so the old #10 is now #1.
This weekend is the Club Championship with tee times beginning Saturday morning at 9:00 am and 1:00 pm on Sunday. Come out and support the players. Joe Cansler is defending his Club Champion title. Good luck to Joe and all the players.
On Wednesday, September 6, 2023 we travel to Colonial in Thomasville, NC. Contact Roger Dooley at 336-339-8245 or rogerdooley49@gmail.com if you wish to play. We need around 52 players.
On Wednesday, September 6, 2023 we also have the Big 4 Challenge (JGA, Greensboro National, Bryan Park, Pine Knolls) at Pine Knolls. Contact John Maynard at 336-908-8343 or maynardsfabri187@bellsouth.net if you wish to play. We need at least 20 players to participate.
We need to meet our commitment to Colonial and the Big 4 Challenge. It just worked out both commitments were on the same day.
We do not have a makeup date for the Big 4 Challenge at Jamestown that was rained out on August 3, 2023.
Thanks, Frank

We had fun today and I encourage JGA members to play in the next challenges. We have JGA members who are also members in these other associations. It was nice seeing many of them as well as spending the day with members from other associations. We need 24 players per association for each multi club outing. The best 20 scores count based on the points you should make from certain tees played.
Thanks,
